Domaine Thierry Allemand

Information

Theirry Allemand was not born to a family with a wine-making history or who owned a domaine. He entered the wine world since very young age, and after working for few years in Robert Michel’s estate, he acquired his fist plot in 1981 and spent his weekends planting it with vines. Ever since he gradually acquired additional land, with the highlight being a fine parcel of 1.7 hecatres old vines in the Reynard climat which previously belonged to Noel Verset, bringing his total holding to 3.4 hectares today.

Tierry Allemand may belong to the young generation at Cornas, but he holds traditional views as to how the wines should be made. Low yields are essential for quality, and to ensure that he applies green harvest at the moment the fruit changes colour. The vinification is aimed to produce wines with structure, density and power but with a great degree of flesh, ripeness and charm. The fermentation is made with whole clusters, and the wines are transferred partly to barrel partly to stainless steel for aging, which lasts 12-18 months. No new oak is being used as he doesn’t believe in use of new wood for making Cornas. Finally, the wines are racked by gravity and bottled withour being filtered.
