Burgundy Extravaganza in the heart of Bordeaux!
Pearl of Burgundy recently hosted a special dinner event with clients and friends in our favorite restaurant partner – L’Univerre.
Located in the heart of the city of Bordeaux, it was fascinating to enjoy virtually an “all Burgundy” event there. The reason for it is not only our personal passion for the wines of Burgundy (we definitely love great, mature Bordeaux wines as well as many wines from other regions), but because L’Univerre is well known amongst serious wine lovers and its clients as a “Burgundy Heaven” and became a destination venue for many of the visitors to Bordeaux.
Fabrice Moisan, the Burgundy passionate (and the most knowledgeable wine connoisseur we know) is the owner of this fantastic Bistro / Wine Bar / Restaurant.
Besides its great French cuisine, it offers its clients not only deep and mature cellar of the greatest wines of France (including the largest selection of Fourrier wines in France), and it serves on a regular basis “by the glass” from some of Burgundy’s top domains: Fourrier, Hudelot Noellat, Roumier and more.
Amongst the never-ending list of great wines we drank, we would just praise two historical wines we enjoyed:
1978 Hudelot-Noellat Richeborg: This was the domaine’s first Richebourg which was made by Charles Van Canneyt (the Domaine’s wine maker and GM since 2008)’s grandfather. A magnificent, fully mature wine showing the greatness of both the domaine and the vineyard. As by now, these vines turned 60 years old (the vines were originally planted in 1950) we can hardly wait to taste Charles’ Richebourg in the next decades to come.
2010 Fourrier Clos st Jacques “Cuvee Centenaire”: This special cuvee, made by Jean Marie Fourrier for the first time from 100 years old vines from the Clos st Jacques vineyard, already shows its greatness although it will surely develop into a magical wine over time. We can hardly wait!
