Domaine Xavier Gerard

Condrieu
Rhône

Xavier Gérard is a rising star in the Northern Rhône wine scene. Born into a family with esteemed vineyards in Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Saint-Joseph, he assumed control of the family estate in 2013. Since then, his wines have garnered international acclaim for their purity and elegance.

In a comprehensive 2015 Northern Rhône “blind” tasting conducted by Decanter magazine, a panel of professionals selected Xavier’s 2015 Côte-Rôtie as one of the two best wines of the tasting, awarding it an impressive 97 points.

Xavier’s winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the unique terroir of each vineyard to shine through. His Côte-Rôtie wines are known for their balance, with notes of cassis, black raspberry, and subtle hints of violet and green olive. The 2015 vintage, for example, is described as having a “soft, ripe, yielding palate, but also concentrated and long, with fine tannins and brisk acidity leading to a long finish.”

In addition to his Côte-Rôtie offerings, Xavier produces a Condrieu from a 1.05-hectare parcel in Vérin, located 2 km from Condrieu. This wine is noted for its fresh fruit character and high acidity, reflecting the granite-infused soils of the region.

Xavier Gérard’s commitment to quality and his respect for traditional winemaking techniques have established him as a noteworthy figure in the Northern Rhône, with his wines being highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
