J G Benda
Tuscany
Located in the prestigious Montalcino region of Tuscany, J.G. Benda is a distinguished winery founded by John Benda. After transitioning from a successful finance career in London to the world of viticulture, Benda established the estate, which spans 2 hectares of vineyards set amidst 16 hectares of woodland. The vineyards, situated at elevations between 520 and 550 meters near the Lume Spento pass, benefit from diverse soil compositions, including stone-based soils from the Upper Cretaceous period and quartzose-feldspathic siltstones from the Paleocene period.
J.G. Benda adheres to biodynamic viticulture practices, avoiding the use of pesticides and herbicides to maintain a healthy ecological balance. The winery’s commitment to minimal intervention is reflected in its manual harvest, spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts, and aging in large oak barrels. The wines are bottled unfiltered, with minimal sulfur added to preserve their natural purity and character.
John Benda’s combination of traditional winemaking techniques and innovative biodynamic practices positions J.G. Benda as an exciting new voice in the Montalcino wine landscape.
